Water Conservation

Save water, and save pollinators.

Your home landscape plays a big role in your overall water use and in your local ecosystem. We often see urban zones as separate from nature - people live here and nature is somewhere else. Modern urban landscapes tend to favor large lawns and evergreen exotics, which simultaneously require a lot of water to maintain, and alienate native species of pollinators, birds, and reptiles.

By reincorporating native plants into our yards, we can both conserve water and bring local nature back into our urban environments. Native-landscaped yards support four times more flower-visiting insects and birds than conventionally landscaped yards. The Town of Windsor has several programs which support these urban transformations.
