Project History

Beginning in 2013, an active group of community members approached the Town to support building new courts in Windsor for pickleball, a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The sport was gaining momentum and popularity leading to Windsor being a host to a pickleball tournament for the 2013 Sonoma Wine Country Senior Games. The Parks and Recreation Commission (Commission) was in support of the concept and the community members were encouraged to participate in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update process. As a result, the expansion of the tennis courts at Hiram Lewis Community Park was identified as a community priority on the Emerging Areas of Interest through the Parks and Recreation Master Plan update process (adopted in 2017).

As the project gained support, funding sources were identified, including CA Prop 68, Parks for All (Measure M), and donations from the community.

The courts opened to the public on October 4, 2024!
