Understanding WaterSmart Customer Notifications
Understanding the different CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION options that can be set up in Communication Preferences:
Notifications can be sent by email, text message, and voice.
High Use Notifications: These are opt-in and initiated by the customer.
If you have opted into High Use Notifications, you will be sent a notification if the use in one calendar day exceeds the threshold you've selected.
These daily thresholds are set relative to the customer's typical seasonal use, when available, or simply their typical use when seasonal use is not available. This average is from the last two years of data for the relevant billing period (when available).
For customers that have less than two years of use data, we use one year of historical data for the relevant billing period to identify their typical seasonal use. Customers with less than one year of billing history is compared to their average use up to that point in time.
Leak Alert Notification: These are automatically opt-in for all customers with a valid email address. Customers can manage their preferred method of contact by selecting text, email and/or phone call. Customers also can choose to opt out of leak notifications. (Not recommended)
For a Residential Customer, 5 gallons per hour or more of water use for 48 consecutive hours will generate an Irregular Water Use notification.
For Multi-Family Residential, 10 gallons per hour or more of water use for 48 consecutive hours will generate an Irregular Water Use notification.
For Commercial, 10 gallons per hour or more of water use for 48 consecutive hours will generate an Irregular Water Use notification.
For an Irrigation Customer, 5 gallons per hour or more of water use for 48 consecutive hours will generate an Irregular Water Use notification.
Additionally, residential and irrigation accounts that show a “burst” using more than 75 gallons of water for 8 or more hours, you will receive an alert for irregular water use.
Unexplained Use Notifications: These are opt-in and initiated by the customer.
If you have opted into Unexplained Use Notifications, you will be sent a notification if the use in one calendar day exceeds the threshold you've selected.
You will receive a notification when use from your property exceeds your Daily Threshold setting. You can set your daily threshold (in gallons) to receive an alert if your daily use exceeds the limit set.
