Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the project?
A: This project originated from the Connecting Central Windsor Study (2018), which was conducted by the Town of Windsor to examine the bicycle and pedestrian access in Central Windsor with the broader goal of creating a more cohesive and walkable downtown area. As identified in this study, the US 101 / Old Redwood Highway interchange serves as one of the primary locations for access with US 101 and serves as one of the main connections between the east and west sides of Windsor.
Q2: Why is it needed?
A: Old Redwood Highway, an east-west principal arterial roadway that runs through downtown Windsor, serves as one of the Town's most heavily travelled roads. Old Redwood Highway also serves as one of the 3 main connections from the Town to US 101. The above mentioned Connecting Central Windsor Study also notes that one of the primary goals of the Town is to reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles within, and around, the existing US 101 at Old Redwood Highway.
Q3: What phase of the project are we in and how long will it take?
A: The project is currently in the Project Approval and Environmental Document phase. It is projected to enter the final design phase in late 2025 with final project approvals by Spring 2026. Construction following in November 2026.
Q4: How much will the project cost? How is it being paid for?
A: The preliminary estimated construction cost for the project from 2018 is $2.8M - $3.2M. The Town has secured $2M in OBAG 3 Federal funding and $600,000 from the Sonoma County Measure DD (Go Sonoma) tax measure.
Q5: Will there be any opportunities for public input on the project?
A: Details and schedules for community engagement are still in development. Refer back to this site for notifications.
